Mage Macros for WoW Classic (Fire, Frost, Arcane)

This page gathers simple, reliable Mage macros for WoW Classic – usable in Classic Era, Hardcore and Season of Discovery. They’re designed to be easy to remember, reduce keybind bloat, and work well with most UIs and addon setups.

General Mage Macros

These macros are useful for every spec.

Focus Interrupt (Counterspell)

Keep an interrupt on your focus without changing your main target – perfect for bosses or dangerous casters.

How it works

If you have a focus target set, this always kicks that unit with Counterspell. If you don’t, it behaves like a normal Counterspell on your current target.

Mouseover Crowd Control (Polymorph)

Quickly sheep enemies by just hovering them – super handy in dungeons and hardcore runs.

Sheeps your mouseover target (nameplate, raid frame, 3D model, etc.)
If you don’t have a mouseover, it uses your current target instead

Panic Button – Stopcasting + Ice Block

Instantly drops your current cast and throws you into an immunity. Great for saving yourself from lethal mechanics or bad pulls.

Be careful with this one in raids – Ice Block can drop boss mechanics on your group if you use it at the wrong time.

Fire Mage Macros

Focus on burst windows and smooth single-target / movement swaps.

Fireball / Scorch Toggle (Single Key)

Use one key for both main nukes – long-cast Fireball and mobile Scorch.

Hold Shift → casts Scorch (great while moving)

Combustion + Trinket Burst

Classic “press everything” fire burst for boss pulls or big burn phases.

Hit this, then spam Fireball or Pyroblast during your burst window

Mouseover Fire Blast Finisher

Great for quickly sniping low health mobs or tagging mobs in crowded areas without changing target.

Frost Mage Macros

Help manage your kiting, shatter combos and group control.

Kiting Key – Frostbolt / Cone of Cold Toggle

One key for your main frost nuke and your close-range emergency slow.

Press normally → Frostbolt for standard kiting
Hold Shift → Cone of Cold when mobs are in your face

Shatter Setup – Frost Nova + Instant Follow-Up

Helps you quickly root enemies and follow up with a big crit window.

Use this, take a small step back, then cast Frostbolt or Cone of Cold for big Shatter crits on frozen targets.

Emergency Escape – Blink + Stopcasting

Break roots, get out of danger, and don’t let a long cast lock you in place.

Arcane Mage Macros

These focus on cooldown stacking, mana tools and utility.

Presence of Mind + Pyroblast

Classic “PoM Pyro” burst – fire off a huge instant cast when you need it most.

Make sure Presence of Mind is talented. You can also trigger trinkets just before this to maximize your crits.

Arcane Power + Trinket Macro

Stacks your big cooldown with your on-use trinkets for strong burst phases.

Hit this, then spam your main nuke (Arcane or Fire, depending on spec) during burn phases.

Mana Tool – Evocation Helper

Optional helper that just makes Evocation more visible and less easy to forget mid-fight.

Put this on a very visible key and use it aggressively. Don’t wait until you’re completely OOM – it’s much better to Evocate earlier between pulls.

How to Create Macros in WoW Classic

Press Esc → click Macros (or type /macro).
Choose General (for all characters) or Character Specific.
Click New, pick an icon, and give it a name.
Paste the macro text from this page into the large text box.
Drag the macro icon onto your action bar.

If a macro doesn’t work:

Check spelling of abilities (language & rank don’t matter in Classic, but names must match).
Make sure the skill is learned.
Try removing other addons that modify macros or action bars.
